Remembering Bock Taylor from Crew SC:
We are saddened to report the passing of Tom Conger. While Tom wasn't involved with the CPL, most players who grew up in Central Ohio probably had Tom to thank for his tireless efforts with MOSSL and Buckeye Premier League as Referee Assignor for many years. Tom was a friend, supporter and champion of the beautiful game here in Central Ohio and his contributions will be missed. Celtic had a good showing at the USASA Midwest Region Tournament of Champions held in Ft. Wayne, Indiana over the weekend of July 29-30. They opened with a 0-0 draw against SAC Lightning from Chicago; drew 2-2 with FC Nationals out of Kentucky; and then defeated Radcliff FC also out of Kentucky 7-1. Although Celtic was the better team in all 3 matches, it wasn’t enough to get them into the knockout rounds. Regardless, Celtic played and represented CPL and SOASA very well!!
Congratulations to FC Clintonville for winning the Second Division Championship; and along with second place Mutiny FC, have earned promotion to the First Division for the Fall 2017 season!!
Congratulations to Capitals FC for winning the James W. Ennis Cup as First Division champions for the Spring 2017 season!!
At the SOASA Cup on June 25, Celtic defeated Gunners FC from Dayton 3-2; but Antrim Ballers lost 2-0 to Liga De Quito in the semifinals. In the championship match, Celtic lost to Liga De Quito 1-0. Both Antrim Ballers and Celtic represented the CPL very well! And by making it to the finals, Celtic has earned the opportunity to represent SOASA at the USASA Midwest Tournament of Champions, July 29-30 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Good luck to Celtic!
As was the case for Match Day 8 on Sunday June 4, the Columbus Premier League once again hosted the Ohio South State Referee Committee’s Advanced Referee Academy for Match Day 9 on Sunday June 11. The Advanced Referee Academy is made up of the best and brightest current and aspiring State Referees. Academy members attend off-field classroom training sessions targeted toward high performance in refereeing adult soccer. They also receive in-depth on-field mentoring and coaching from our highest level National and State assessors while working exclusively with other academy members. We were excited to have hosted these crews as well as the assessors/mentors that we present during each match. We hope to be the preferred designation for these types of advancements to the game in the future!!
The Columbus Premier is saddened to report the passing of one of our own – Joseph “Brock” Taylor passed away suddenly on May 31 at the age of 24. (View Obituary here: http://www.rutherfordfuneralhomes.com/obituaries/Brock-Taylor)
Brock was a Dublin Jerome and Ohio Dominican University soccer alum and most recently played with FC Columbus in the Columbus Premier League. He also was a coach in the Columbus Crew SC’s Player Development System. To honor Brock’s memory, the Columbus Premier League had a moment of silence before all matches on Sunday June 4; and has made a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Additionally, the Second Division championship trophy will be named the "Brock Taylor Memorial Cup". Our condolences to the Taylor family and to all those who knew Brock.
Capitals FC unfortunately found the going tough against RWB Adria, one of the top amateur teams in the country, in the USASA Amateur Cup on Saturday April 22 in Chicago. The 6+ hour drive and lack of depth took it's toll, but Capitals represented the Premier League very well!
